Counselling
Hi, I’m Janna.
I’m a Licensed Counselling Therapist, and one of the things I value most about this work is the opportunity to connect with people in a way that feels genuine, safe and human.
Credentials and training matter—and I have spent many years building both—but I also believe that good therapy is about more than techniques.
It’s about having a place where you can exhale.
A place where you don’t have to pretend you’re okay, explain away what you’re feeling or have everything neatly figured out before you walk through the door.
My job isn’t to tell you who you should be or what decisions you should make. My role is to help you understand yourself more deeply, notice patterns, explore possibilities and strengthen your ability to trust your own judgment and strengths.
Sometimes that means listening.
Sometimes it means asking a question you haven’t considered before.
Sometimes it means gently challenging something that may be keeping you stuck.
And sometimes it means simply making room for something that has been difficult to carry alone.
My approach
My style is warm, compassionate, collaborative and practical.
I work from a trauma-informed perspective and draw from evidence-based approaches depending on what you need and what fits for you. Our work may include exploring emotions and relationships, understanding patterns from the past, developing greater self-compassion, learning ways to regulate your nervous system, challenging unhelpful thinking, strengthening boundaries or experimenting with new ways of responding.
Therapy isn’t something I do to you.
It’s something we do together.
We’ll talk openly about what’s helping, what isn’t and what you want from our time together.
The things we can talk about
People come to counselling for many different reasons.
My work frequently includes anxiety and stress, depression, ADHD, grief and loss, trauma and PTSD, relationship difficulties, communication, self-esteem and confidence, overwhelm and burnout, parenting, substance use, work-life balance and major life transitions.
You may also come to therapy without a clearly defined problem.
Sometimes you simply know that the way things are going isn’t how you want them to continue.
That’s enough of a place to begin.
Working with couples
Relationships can bring out some of our deepest fears, needs and patterns.
Couples therapy isn’t about deciding who is right and who is wrong. It’s about slowing things down enough to understand what is happening between you.
Together, we can explore communication patterns, conflict, connection, trust and the emotions underneath the arguments so that you can begin relating to each other differently.
My background
I bring together experience in counselling psychology, adult education, coaching and leadership development.
I hold a Master of Counselling from Athabasca University as well as a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology, Bachelor of Education and Master of Education in Adult Education from the University of New Brunswick.
I am also a Certified Executive Coach through Royal Roads University and a Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitator.
Throughout my career, one theme has remained constant: I am deeply interested in people—how we make sense of our experiences, how we relate to one another, what gets in our way and what helps us move toward lives that feel more authentic and meaningful.
Why this work matters to me
I have a lot of respect for what it takes to sit across from another person and talk honestly about the parts of life that are difficult.
Therapy requires courage.
Not the kind of courage that means being fearless, but the kind that allows us to be curious, vulnerable and honest enough to look at what is really happening.
My hope is that our work helps you understand yourself with greater compassion, trust yourself more deeply and make choices that feel increasingly aligned with the person you want to be.
If that sounds like the kind of relationship you’re looking for in a therapist, I’d be glad to connect.
